An overview of the PMC
Peterborough Mountaineering Club was formed in 1954 by local enthusiasts and has grown to over 200 members, ranging in age from 12 to over 60. We regularly visit mountain areas of Britain, including the Peak District, Wales, the Lake District, Pembroke, Swanage, the south coast, Northumberland and the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Club activities have included walking, caving, climbing, scrambling, and many social events.
The club prides itself on being friendly and open to newcomers, supporting and encouraging members with competitions, novice weekends and training courses covering a variety of related subjects such as first aid, navigation and climbing and rescue techniques.
Each summer members travel to the Alps and to the sunny crags of Spain and Southern France. In recent years members have also been as far afield as Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand and Central Africa in search of adventure.
Social activities are held throughout the year and future events will include the summer BBQ, the 'chilli bash', a massive Christmas dinner at the cottage in Wales, slide shows, the awards ceremony, the quiz night and the annual dinner at which all members are obliged to enjoy themselves.
See the Events page for details.
